Joy Division was formed in Salford in 1976. The group was comprised of vocalist Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner (guitarist/keyboardist), Peter Hook (bassist), and Stephen Morris (drummer). Formed after Sumner and Hook attended a Sex Pistols concert, Joy Division was heavily influenced by early punk and they soon pioneered a sound that made them the pioneers of the post-punk and gothic rock movements.
